HMCS Chippawa Naval Reserve Division Design-Build Project

Project Overview

Located at a very busy intersection in downtown Winnipeg, this facility consisted of the design and construction of a new Naval Reserve Division (NRD). The existing NRD was demolished under a separate contract prior to construction of the new facility. It has a ground floor area of 40,000 ft2. The reserve has two floors with a Museum with an open display area complete with quarterdeck gun and gun turret, a two-storey high drill hall (gymnasium), administration offices, three messes, a control lobby, storage rooms, and a full service kitchen capable of serving 1,000 each day. The upper floor classrooms are equipped with folding partitions and also include an audio/visual system. The training rooms, divers area complete with classrooms, storage and washroom facilities, boat storage and repair, weapons repair and storage, major vehicle repair, band room equipped with special acoustics, humidity controlled band storage room. A Marine Diesel Training Unit is intended to provide a realistic simulation of a marine diesel installation for onshore training of marine diesel mechanics. There was also a full site development that included construction of a new road that runs behind the building.
